The California Safe Communities and Parks Act (Statutory Initiative, #15-0036) did not qualify for the November 8, 2016 election ballot as an initiated state statute.[1]

Many other marijuana legalization initiatives were circulated in California in 2016. As of March 4, 2016, the clear front-runner and the most likely to reach the ballot was the initiative called the Adult Use of Marijuana Act.

  • Chad M. Hanes and Marinda D. Hanes submitted a letter requesting a title and summary on July 3, 2015.
  • A title and summary were issued by California's attorney general on September 8, 2015.
  • 365,880 valid signatures were required for qualification purposes.
  • Supporters had 150 days from the date that the title and summary were issued to collect the required signatures.
  • On December 18, 2015, petitioners withdrew the initiative.[2]
